Hello and welcome to my space.
Style is timeless for me. I am not guided by fads or fashion. I let my inner critic be my guide. If I love it then great but if I don't I never force anything.
I like to use colour but in the right place. For my home, I need the tranquility of muted tones. Most of my interiors harness the power of natural low lights with small pops of colour. Colour used carefully can be extremely impactful.
I love to use a little old with new. I think something old gives substance to a room. It tells a story. It is so simple to build a room with new things. If you are looking for someone who will buy a sofa and the matching chairs - this is not me. I almost need the room to challenge itself - to work something different into it. The test comes when you integrate an older piece/s and it blends seamlessly into a project. I love the challenge!
I also give myself the added challenge of sourcing nearly everything locally. Ironically this takes more time but the end result is so satisfying on many levels. As the saying goes 'resourcefulness breeds creativity' and we certainly have the resources and talent on the island. I have been very lucky to be able to work with some extremely talented and hardworking individuals here in Barbados. Supporting local talent and the local economy is a must for L'atelier de Sophie. We work hand in hand to create my visions and together we make a remarkable team.
If I had to describe my style in four words it would have to be; eclectic, organic, simple and practical. Less is always more in my case. Practicality also is hugely important in my design - it needs to function. The marriage between comfort, style and functionality is a beautiful one!
